1. Frequent fasting unites one with Creator

   As Muslims prepare for Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar when Muslims fast from dawn to dusk (scheduled to begin Sept. 2), I am reminded of the advice of Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him when he stated: "There is an abode in paradise prepared for those who are polite in their speech, provide food for the needy, fast frequently and stand in prayer when other people are asleep" (Al-Thirmidi. 2. Jazzing up church

   My recent visit to New Orleans to do Hurricane Katrina reconstruction and repair work wasn't all work and no play; I also took time to visit some of the sights -- something that locals encouraged us to do. New Orleans may face many challenges as it seeks to recover from the devastating storm, but residents boast a keen pride in their city and want the world to know that disaster isn't the only thing that defines their community.
