The defending world champion got her first bonspiel win of the season Monday night in Abbotsford, B.C., defeating Saskatoon's Stefanie Lawton 9-2 in the final of the $60,000 Wayden Transportation Ladies Classic to capture the $16,000 first prize. 111Manitoba teams put in a good showing at the Grand Slam event in Waterloo, Ont. Neither Kerry Burtnyk nor Mike McEwen made the playoffs, but Jeff Stoughton and Reid Carruthers did. But there was no stopping Howard this weekend, as he eliminated Carruthers 6-4 in the quarter-finals, then hung up the same score on Stoughton in the semifinals. Updated 2:50 AM
