Too much secrecy
Last fall, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba revoked a physician's licence to practise, but it has refused to identify that doctor. The college, the physicians' self-regulatory body, revoked the licence because they determined he was "ungovernable" and was suffering from a psychiatric illness that could pose a danger to the public. The college also refuses to say what was the doctor's specialty, where in Manitoba he practised or to release the nature of his illness. Updated 8:09 AM

Olympic solution
Governments usually like to say there is no quick fix to the problems of poverty, drug addiction and homelessness in the country's inner cities and downtown cores. Vancouver, however, seems to think it has found a solution. It's called the Olympics. Updated 8:09 AM

Letter Of The Day
As a daily reader of the Free Press, I've always looked forward to Bill Redekop's column, in large part because it is usually upbeat. Aug. 24th's Down, but not out, dealing with Kenora's current economic plight, is an exception, painting a bleak picture of the future of our city. Updated 2:00 AM
